Founded in 1746, Princeton University is a private research university located in the town of Princeton, New Jersey.  Offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering among others;

Princeton is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country.  Originally named the College of New Jersey, it was given its current name in 1896. 

The main campus is one of the most beautiful and storied in the country.  One of the oldest building on campus is Nassau Hall, which was constructed around 1754 and still sits today on the northern border of the campus.

Many of the major buildings on the campus dating to the late 19th Century are influenced by the Victorian Gothic style with Neo-Gothic archways and lanterns.

Princeton is made up of 6 undergraduate residential colleges that are generally composed of about 500 freshman, sophomores, and some juniors and seniors.  Each contains its own dormitories, dining halls, and a large number of other amenities for students.  The colleges are:

• Whitman College
• Wilson College.

Students attending this prestigious school have a choice of concentration in 34 different departments in the humanities, engineering, social sciences, or the natural sciences.

Students can graduate with a degree of either A.B. Or B.S.E.  There are also interdisciplinary certificate programs that offer students participating in them a wealth of opportunity for focused studies that supplements the primary concentration of the student.

Princeton University boasts one of the largest university libraries in the world as well as one of the largest “open stack” libraries known to exist.  The main library on campus, the Firestone Library houses over 4 million volumes with a number of well-known collections including the Blickling homilies.  Many of the individual disciplines within the university have their own libraries such as the engineering, geology, and international affairs libraries.

In February of 2007, Princeton joined forces with Google to begin scanning the world`s great literary works to make them searchable on the internet.

Princeton University has a long and tradition-laden athletic programs for men and women.  Sports Illustrated recently ranked the university as a top 10 school for athletics.  Princeton has dominating men`s and women`s squads in squash and lacrosse.  The largest varsity sport at Princeton is rowing, and it is one of the most celebrated and successful programs of its kind in the nation.  The university`s basketball team is a regular player in “March Madness” as the Ivy League representative in the NCAA Mens` and Womens` Basketball Tournament.  One of the greatest upsets in basketball history took place in 1996 when Princeton defeated defending champion UCLA in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

The Tigers of Princeton have a long-standing rivalry with other Ivy League members Harvard and Yale in football, with the series between the teams going back over 100 years.  Princeton has a storied past and bright future where the best of the best can study under some of the best and most distinguished professors in the country.
