The university of Wisconsin-Madison comprises of twenty schools with student enrollment in thousands.

There are two thousand and fifty four faculty members in the university. The academic programs include undergraduate majors as well as master’s degree programs.

There are also one hundred and seven doctorate programs in the university.

The Carnegie classification of institutions of higher education ranked it as a very high research institution. The research expenditures of the University of Wisconsin-Madison are more than a billion dollars. The university is also a founding member of the Association of American universities.

According to the Association of research libraries, the University of Wisconsin has the thirteenth largest research library collection in America.  The campus library contains more than eight million volumes.

There are museums of geology, zoology, art and physics.

The University came into being when Wisconsin was incorporated as a state. The Wisconsin Constitution provided for the establishment of a state university to be governed by a board of regents and administered by a chancellor. The act that officially created the university was signed in 1846, by the first governor of Wisconsin.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is the main campus of the university of Wisconsin system. It is a research university that has twenty associated colleges and schools. It offers education in the fields of education, agriculture, and mass communication, business, life sciences, journalism, engineering, letters and science, music, nursing, human ecology, social welfare and pharmacy.

There are also professional and graduate schools for library, environmental studies, law and information studies, public health, medicine, veterinary medicine and public affairs.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is situated almost a mile from the capital of Wisconsin state. It is situated on an isthmus between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. The entire campus is more than ten thousand acres in area. It includes several buildings designed by Arthur Peabody and J.T.W. Jennings.

The Bascom Hall – situated at the top of Bascom Hill – is the main campus. It was built in 1857. Over the years there have been several additions to the main structure. The office of the chancellor and vice chancellors are housed in this campus.

The music hall is a Victorian building built in 1878. It was officially named Music Hall in 1910. It serves as university’s opera and an important music venue.
