Harvard University

Founded in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest institute of higher learning in the United States and standard to which all other schools yearn to reach.  With a rich history and an unrivaled dedication to the pursuit of excellence, Harvard offers a rich learning experience in a wide range of disciplines.

 

Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Harvard University is named for the university`s first benefactor, John Harvard.  When he died in 1638, he left his library and half his estate to found the university.  Today, the university has 12 degree granting schools along with the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.  It is one of the premier research universities in the world with the largest endowment of any school, with over 16 billion.

 

The university is home to the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which presents visitors with a unique and diverse perspective on the world today.  Some of the exhibits you can expect to see here include Headgear, the Natural History of Horns and Antlers and the Language of Color.

Harvard is known for having one of the most beautiful campuses on the world.  The Harvard Yard is world-famous for its architecture and exquisite landscaping, the perfect setting for a peaceful afternoon reading a book or admiring wildlife.

The undergraduate school has a long tradition of being ranked the number one program in the nation.

The business school’s MBA program is one of the top in the nation. Harvard’s law school is one of the most prestigious programs in the country.

Supporting this tradition is one of the world`s largest and best libraries, the Harvard University Library Association centered in Harvard Yard.  It is comprised of over 80 individual libraries and contains over 15 million volumes making it the 3rd largest library in the country.

 

The Harvard student body is a diverse community with students from all 50 states and hundreds of countries from around the world.  Some of the most notable student works are the Harvard Crimson, the oldest continuously published college newspaper in the United States.  Since its founding in 1873, its editors have included 2 U.S. Presidents (JFK and FDR) and many Pulitzer Prize winners.  The Harvard Lampoon is a world-famous undergraduate humor publication   that counts among its former writers Conan O`Brien, Robert Benchley, and John Updike.

 

No mention of Harvard would be complete without a look at its storied and tradition-packed athletic program.  The Crimson have long been first and foremost in many intercollegiate sports.  Today their athletic programs are committed to leadership and excellence in Division I sports while maintaining the highest integrity in fair play and sportsmanship.  Basketball, football, ice hockey, sailing, and lacrosse are just a few of the 41 NCAA sports teams that represent the university.
