Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is situated in Troy, New York. Established in 1824 by Stephen Van Rensselaer, it is the old technical university in the English speaking countries. It was founded for the application of science to the common purposes of life.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute spans over two hundred and seventy five acres, overlooking the Hudson River and the city of Troy. The campus contains traditional as well as modern units.
 
The stated mission of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute still retains its scientific and technological roots were was its basic founding reasons. There are five schools in the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute:  The School of Engineering, The School of Science,The School of Architecture, and Schools of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, and the Lally School of Management and Technology. The university has one hundred and forty programs for bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees.
 
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is ranked among the top fifty universities in America and among top fifty worldwide in technology.
 
Campus
 
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute spans two hundred and seventy five acres of land and overlooks the city of Troy.
 
Residential areas surround the institution. Most of the buildings, in the campus are Colonial Revival style, which were built at the beginning of the past century.

The Experimental Media and Performing arts center was opened on 4th October, 2008. It is located to the west of the campus. The arts center is built on a hill with an entrance on the top. 
 
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute also runs a campus located in Hartford and a distance learning center in Groton. These offer graduate programs and several certificate programs and skill development programs for professionals. In addition to the above, the Institute also runs a program in Malta, New York for the students of Navy Nuclear power training school.
 
On-campus residence is also available for First-year students. Freshmen exclusively occupy six halls whereas two halls are shared by freshmen and upperclassmen. The residence halls contain a kitchen and several lounges. Every room has internet and phones. There are around two hundred clubs and organizations in the campus that provide students with the opportunities to indulge in various creative activities.
