The University of Texas at Austin is situated in Austin, Texas. It is a public research university that was established in 1883.
The University of Texas at Austin has a huge student enrollment. There are more than sixteen thousand faculty members in the university.
The University of Texas at Austin was accepted into the American Association of Universities in 1929. Last year, the university’s research budget was more than six hundred and forty million dollars. Apart from the main campus, there are several other facilities run by this University. It was also awarded the best sports college in 2002 by Sports illustrated magazine.
The University of Texas at Austin was established under Morril Act, in 1876. Originally it was the Agricultural & Mechanical college of Texas. In 1881, Austin became the site for main university campus and it became operational on September 15, 1883.
There is a permanent university fund with assets nearing fifteen billion dollars. It provides thirty percent of university’s endowment.
The revenue from this fund accounts for nearly ten percent of the university’s annual budget. There are also privately funded endowments contributing over two billion dollars to the university’s total endowment.
The University of Texas at Austin has a triple-A credit rating from all major credit rating agencies.
Campus
The total property that belongs to the University of Texas at Austin is more than one thousand and four hundred acres. The main campus occupies four hundred and twenty three acres.
The main campus has one hundred and fifty buildings that total around eighteen million square feet

The most noticeable feature of the University of Texas at Austin is the Beaux-Arts museum Building that has a three hundred and seven foot tower. The main building is situated in the middle of the campus.
There are seven museums and seventeen libraries in the university that have more than eighteen volumes.
There is a vast underground tunnel system – measuring almost six miles in length- in the university which links every building in the campus. The university generates its own electricity. It also has a nuclear reactor at the research campus which produces 1.1 megawatts of electricity.
