California has by far the largest K-12 system of any state -- over 10,000 public schools alone. The 2 records below are a Los Angeles starting sample, not remotely close to full coverage; a charter-school record was intentionally skipped this round after the specific school checked showed conflicting closure/status information across sources rather than being shown as-is with unresolved ambiguity.

California school-level context

California's K-12 system is overseen by the California Department of Education, which publishes school-level data through the California School Dashboard, separately from the federal NCES directory used above. California also has the largest number of charter schools of any state -- worth verifying a specific charter campus's current operating status directly, since charter schools open, close, or change names more often than traditional district schools (we skipped a charter record this round for exactly this reason -- see the note above).
