This section works differently from our university pages. School-level academic and safety data changes more often and varies more by source than the college-program data elsewhere on this site -- see how we source this below before treating any single figure as final.

Browse by state

Each state page splits schools by level (Pre-K, Elementary, Middle, High, K-12) and type (Public, Public Charter, Private), with individual school records for the schools we've currently researched and sourced.

How we source this

Every school record on this site draws from named public sources: the NCES Common Core of Data (public and public charter directory, enrollment, staffing), the NCES Private School Survey (private school directory -- updated less frequently than CCD), state department of education assessment data, and crime/safety data from FBI Uniform Crime Reporting-derived sources at the county or city level. We do not publish a single proprietary "school rating" the way some other sites do. Where we show a calculated rating, it's an explicit average of whichever named components have real data behind them for that school, and the page states how many components fed the number -- see our full ratings methodology.

Two things we do deliberately: we state a data gap rather than fill it with an estimate, and when two public sources disagree on a figure (which happens, especially with crime data), we show both rather than picking the more flattering one.

This section is being built out state by state, starting with a small number of individually researched schools per state rather than a bulk, unverified import -- see each state page for current coverage.
