Crime & safety

Boise shows strong cross-source agreement toward the safer end, a contrast to many of the cities profiled earlier in this directory: multiple independent sources describe Boise's overall crime rate as below the national average (estimates ranging from about 42% below to modestly above depending on category and source), with safety-percentile rankings in the 60s-80s (safer than 62-80% of comparable U.S. cities). One source notes 2025 crime fell roughly 15% from 2024, with only 3 homicides recorded. Sources agree crime is higher relative to the rest of Idaho specifically (Boise has more crime than most other Idaho cities and towns), even though it remains below national urban averages.

Worth noting precisely what "safer than average" means here: multiple sources agree Boise is safer than most U.S. cities nationally, but also agree it has more crime than most other communities within Idaho -- both statements are true at once and describe different comparison groups, not a contradiction.

Our calculated rating

We don't publish a single proprietary score. Based on the 1 of 3 possible components we could source for this school (safety, consistently favorable across sources), we're not showing a partial numeric rating -- 1 of 3 remains below our threshold regardless of how consistent that one component is. See our ratings methodology.
